Teacher's Prank Heightens Introvert's Stage Fears - A True Story
Once upon a time, there was a student who was very shy. His name is Alex. On one occasion, he had to give a speech in front of a large audience during a "Cultural Festival" event. Naturally, it made him nervous as speaking in public is scary especially if you are a quiet person.
On sensing this, his teacher thought he would play a prank on him to make him comfortable to face the stage without fear. He told Alex that he would be presenting the speech to just one judge in a small room.
But, when Alex opened the curtains assuming to enter a small room; to his big surprise, he got on to the stage and saw huge crowd of people. He immediately realized that his teacher fooled him, and this was not what he expected.
The shock of the big audience made shy Alex very very nervous. He couldn't face all the people. He felt scared and shaky. To deal with his fear, he didn't look at the audience. He just stared at the walls of the room and somehow gave the speech. He was not sure whether his speech made sense to the audience, as he was lost in his own world due to nervousness.
I feel, pranks like the one played by the teacher in this true story can cause the student to lose trust in the teacher and feel deeply embarrassed. It is important for the teachers to think before they act as the impact of their unintentional actions can effect emotional well-being of the students. The teachers should receive training not only in their subjects but also in effectively managing the students with diverse mindsets and needs.
What do you think the teacher should have done in order to guide a nervous student to face a huge audience without fear???
