Class 10: Akash "Messed Up" ...A True Story

Akash's switch from science to commerce after finishing class 11 highlights the consequences of hasty decisions influenced by external factors which are not in align with his individual interests and skill sets. The collective influence of those around him has led to a challenging situation for Akash.

CULPRITS

1. Akash, the student himself

2. His parents

3.  The Educational Institutions

4. Teachers and Counselors

5. Society and Peer Pressure

1. The student: He must bear the responsibility for all this. He must actively engage in shaping his educational choices as he possess the best insight into his own skills and aspirations. He must be self aware and mature enough to take proper decisions in alignment to his academic path.

1.     2. Parents: Parents play a pivotal role in guiding their children's career choices, offering invaluable support and advice. While conflicts can arise due to differing prospective, some parents may encourage their children to adapt to certain career paths emphasizing the importance of long-term career growth and providing them coaching thinking that their child will slowly develop interest in that career over time. They think that their child is too young and immature to take proper career choice.

As an educational organization, they possess wealth of knowledge and information about past students, which enables them to provide tailored guidance on academic streams and career prospects.

OUTCOME

Switching streams can serve as a valuable lesson to students; awakening early from their mistakes is crucial to prevent these errors from ruining their future. Their experiences can inspire them to become mentors and guide their juniors towards making more thoughtful career choices.

Also, such shifts result in wasted time, energy, knowledge, alongside financial burden on parents who invested in coaching and resources.

IMPACT

Beyond individual impact, this irresponsibility affects the nation as well, denying deserving candidate a seat and therefore hindering the education system and workforce. It also limits the country's access to a diverse talent pool, skilled personnel, and disrupts the job market, due to under utilization of educational resources in certain fields.

Such shifts happen due to various other reasons as well, like;

1. Meet IIT-JEE exam topper, who quit IIT Bombay after just one year due to...

In this scenario, the student's decision to switch to better university is due to better career prospects.

2. Many engineering graduates are opting to become bank officers.

3. Some even shift careers late; Julia Child used to work in advertising and government intelligence before discovering her passion for cooking and published her first cookbook in her 40's.

I feel, it is crucial for upcoming students to learn valuable lessons from their senior's mistakes, whether by staying informed through news or seeking guidance from academic counselors and find out their passion and skills in order to have a fulfilling and prosperous career path.
